How it works

Built for hands that can't read yet

Two buttons. That's the whole interface.

Back and Ready. There are no menus, no settings, no tabs, and nowhere to type. A toddler can't get lost, and can't get out into anything they shouldn't.

One card at a time, at their pace

Each deck is a stack of big picture cards. Swipe sideways and the next one snaps into place — no scoring, no timers, no streaks to keep up. When they're bored of frogs, they swipe.

And a bedtime story, too

Story of the Planets isn't flashcards — it's fourteen pages about Dave, who flies a rocket to every planet in turn. The background changes colour as he goes: rusty orange for Mars, deep blue for Neptune.

The colours deck

The whole screen changes colour with them

Swipe through the colours deck and the background, the card and even the status bar shift to match. Fourteen of them:

Pink
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Purple
Brown
Black
White
Red
Indigo
Violet
Lemon
Gold

Two ways in

Try it now, or keep it on the phone

Both are free, and both are the same app.

Play in your browser

Nothing to install. Opens on a phone, a tablet or a laptop — handy for letting someone try it before they commit to a download.

Open CiaraApp

Works in any modern browser. On a wide screen it renders as a centred phone-sized column, because that's the shape it was designed for.

Download for Android

An APK you install directly. Once it's on, it needs no connection at all — every picture and word ships inside the app.

Download the APK
  1. Tap the download, then open the file.
  2. Android will ask permission to install from an unknown source — that's expected for an app that isn't on the Play Store yet. Allow it for your browser.
  3. Install, and Cody is waiting on the home screen.

There's no iPhone or iPad version. Use the browser link on those — it works well.

For the grown-ups

What it doesn't do

This is the short list, and it's the honest one — the app makes no network requests of any kind.

  • No adsNot any kind, not ever, not even "family friendly" ones.
  • No accountsNothing to sign up for. No email, no password, no profile.
  • No tracking in the appNo analytics, no crash reporting, no third-party SDKs — the app never opens a socket.
  • No data collectedNothing is stored about your child, because nothing is collected.
  • No connection neededWorks on a plane, in the car, anywhere.
  • Nothing to buyNo in-app purchases and no upsell screens.

This web page is the one exception, and it is worth being straight about: it counts visits and downloads using Umami, a cookieless analytics tool, so we know whether anyone is finding the app. No cookies, no personal data, nothing that follows you to another site — and none of it is in the app you install.
